Wildfire Prepared Neighborhood Program Inquiry

IBHS has developed the Wildfire Prepared Neighborhood program to help communities reduce wildfire risk through coordinated, science-based mitigation strategies.

We welcome inquiries from builders, developers, HOAs, and community representatives interested in meeting the Wildfire Prepared Neighborhood Standard.

Applicability/Assessment

To determine whether a neighborhood may be a good fit for the program, a neighborhood must meet the following initial applicability criteria:

LOCATION: The qualifying neighborhood may be located in any state the Wildfire Prepared program is available. Currently available in: AZ, CA, CO, FL, ID, MT, NV, NM, OK, OR, UT, TX, WA, WY. My neighborhood is located in this state:(Required)

HOME SPACING: At least 90% of structures must be spaced a minimum of 10 feet apart (up to 100 feet). If neighborhood home spacing falls outside of this range, the Wildfire Prepared Neighborhood Standard does not apply.(Required)

ROOF TYPE: All homes must have a Class A roof, which will be initially checked by assessing aerial imagery.(Required)

HOME HARDENING REQUIREMENT: Homes must be capable of meeting Wildfire Prepared Home (WFPH) Base or Plus requirements, depending on exposure.(Required)

After submission, IBHS will:

Review parcel boundaries,
Conduct fuel assessments to determine neighborhood flame and ember exposure zones.
Provide mitigation recommendations and requirements (e.g., indicating areas where Wildfire Prepared Home Plus or Base levels apply).

Note: Participation in the IBHS Wildfire Prepared Neighborhood Pilot program is not guaranteed. The application process will close once six communities have been selected for the 2025 pilot. If your neighborhood is not selected for the pilot, please remain in touch for future opportunities.
