This checklist is your preparation guide for earning a Wildfire Prepared Home™ designation. To qualify, all required actions for your selected level must be completed before applying.
Grounded in independent wildfire research from the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS), the Wildfire Prepared Home™ program outlines clear, science-based requirements—organized into levels of protection—to help homeowners address vulnerabilities and reduce the likelihood of home ignition.
This checklist explains the required actions to prepare your home for wildfire, where to begin, and how to complete all requirements–without guesswork. Because embers exploit the weakest link—addressing only some risks is not enough. A systems-based approach matters.
Choosing a designation level
The program offers two designation levels– Base and Plus– to reflect different starting points. The checklist explains both requirements and helps you decide where to start.
Not sure where to begin? Compare Base vs. Plus
1. Base
Typically the right starting point for existing homes; focuses on ember-driven ignition risks.
2. Plus
Builds on Base with added protection against flames and radiant heat; recommended for new construction or major renovations.
