Learn How to Earn a Wildfire Prepared Home Designation
Once you’ve completed the course you will be equipped to begin mitigation for your home and apply for a designation. To earn a designation certificate, your home must meet all requirements for the Base level. For added protection, you can level up to the Plus designation, which includes all Base-level requirements plus additional upgrades:
- Base Level – Foundational wildfire mitigation steps to protect homes from wind-driven embers and limit fire spread. Requirements include a 0–5 foot noncombustible zone, upgraded building features, and 30 feet of defensible space (or to the property line).
- Plus Level – Builds on the Base designation with enhanced building features and stricter defensible space to improve protection against radiant heat and direct flames. Often achieved through new construction or major exterior renovations.
